Farmers markets are blossoming in the Memphis area this year, with more places and shopping days than ever before for those crazy for the locally grown and the handmade.

With the number of new markets, shopping for fresh and local produce face-to-face with the grower is now possible seven days a week, rain or shine.

The new markets, as well as the established ones, are a response to recent growth in both consumer demand and the number of growers and producers. From just a handful areawide only a few years ago, Memphis-area shoppers now can enjoy at least 14 markets, plus a few more just outside of our metro area.

HELP!!!! Greenhouses are full of herbs and flowers, on benches, on the floor, outside, and 1500 hanging baskets almost ready. What can I do now!????

Hey, fellow gardeners. We are working feverishly in the greenhouses this week. At least Jim is (I am recuperating from a sinus infection). Snow last week and 71 degrees now is great for planting, but not for sinuses!! First of all I want to wish my granddaughter, Miss Bella Reese Hicks, a very happy first birthday. She will soon be my helper in the greenhouses, but I’ll let her grow up a little first. My oldest, Carley, will probably help this year.

We are planting herbs and veggies this week. Great lavenders, rosemarys, some thyme, and some mints (Mojito mint and a new one “Basil Mint.”) These herbs take a little longer to grow, so they come first. They take about 8 weeks in the greenhouse to mature. We are also planting 60 (yes, 60) lettuce bowls with a new salad blend “Simply Salad” for the master gardener sale April 1 at the Agricenter.

Last week we planted some grasses, purple fountain grass, lemon grass, and big twister juncus.

Let me know if there is something you need. We’re also doing a lot of herb combination pots today. We’ll do one for you!!! patsy

Over the winter, Patsy has been brushing up on her internet skills, got her a new fancy-dancy smart phone and has read many books on her Kindle while listening to her Nano iPod!

Patsy has entered the age of technology (finally!)

I believe she may be ready to start blogging on her own!!! Well…I may have to help a little

Well, even though the Market doesn’t officially open until May 1st…..We’re already there (couldn’t wait!)We have lots of fresh herbs and flowers for you! Come by the Agricenter Monday-Saturday, 8-5:30 and grab ‘em up!

I will be adding my inventory soon so you can start thinking of all the great things you want to do in your yard or on your porch or balcony this spring. Hi! This is Patsy’s daughter, Raine. I’ve set this blog up as a Christmas present for her…Ssssh, I haven’t given it to her yet. Once I show her how very simply she can become an internet Blogging sensation, she’ll be blogging away about her pretty flowers and herbs, what’s growing in the greenhouse, what’s on sale and probably how much Daddy got on her nerves! LOL

Seriously, if you’ve ever purchased a plant from my parents, you’ve come back for more no doubt. They have some of the most beautiful and healthiest plants around…for the right price!
